Andrew blushed, as he read the secret fear and insecurity there. Lilly was justifiably proud of her intelligence, but part of her wanted to experience a less studious life.
The images in her dreams were of parties, and easier social relations. Fantasies of being the life and soul of the party, and the Andrew found what Lilly wanted. She pictured the party Lilly, as more curvaceous, relaxed, and less focused on her studies.
"That creepy shit's staring at me!" The words came through like a megaphone, and Andrew recoiled, realising that Lilly had spotted his absent gaze. Recoiling back inside his own mind, he snatched his attention back to the notes on his desk.
Not knowing her, he'd almost approached her a couple of times to chat. Now, he saw her in a different light. It was a chastening experience, to see the quiet, studious Lilly had so much hatred in her.

Afraid any other mind-reading might cause him to stand out more, he kept his head down for the rest of the day. But, her unhappiness and anger clung to his thoughts as he took his evening walk after his dinner.
With a start he realised he was on the street where Lilly lived, the vision of her front door intruding, and automatically his gaze drifted up to her bedroom, as the light vanished beyond the curtains.
Taking a divertion, he walked around the block, returning to the front of Lilly's house, all the lights were out, as he stood against a nearby tree.
Reaching out with his mind he tried to latch onto Lilly's thoughts.
