Chapter #5The boy, the bitch, and the geek. by: Ëtalfni Alex Lenard...Just his name sent shivers down Catherine's spine. He was so popular, and had the good looks to match. Jet black hair, a well toned body, bright blue eyes... But it wasn't just the looks that made him a knock out for Cat. He was kind, always said hello to her whenever he saw her. He knew a fair bit about anime and manga, which Cat worshiped like the geek she was. And he was generally a nice person. He did charity work on the weekends. CHARITY WORK! Who wouldn't like Alex? Everyone in school knew him, and there were few people that had something bad to say about him. He was perfect!
Well, okay, almost perfect...
Cat yelped as a hand smacked her in the back of her head. Unfortunately it belonged to the last person Cat wanted to notice her ogling Alex from her desk...
"What are you looking at there, flat-girl?" It was Marlene, the biggest bitch that ever bitched at a car-full of bitches. Sadly she was also Alex's current girlfriend, much to Cat's constant dismay.
"Nothing...Just doodling as always, Marlene." She answered, Cat hated being called flat-girl due to her features. Or rather, lack of thereof.
Marlene huffed, and released Cat's dyed orange head. "I saw you, you were watching my man again. You chibi-obsessed freak. You do it one more time and I'll cut off all that orange hair of yours."
Cat waited until she was back at her desk before muttering. "Bitch..."
Marlene wasn't exactly a nice person, especially not to Cat. Most people around the school knew her almost as well as they did Alex, though usually not for very good reasons. She had the WORST attitude imaginable. One time she knocked a small kid down and made him cry, just because he accidentally cut in front of her while in line. Who knew why Alex liked her enough to date her. Maybe she threatened him or something.
Then again, there was her body. In comparison to Cat's no curved body, Marlene looked like a stripper. She had hit puberty early, after all. Considering they were all only in their Freshman year of high school, that made Marlene the biggest girl in the grade.
It sucked. Alex was the one for Cat, and she knew it.
Thankfully, the bell for study hall rang. School was over and Cat could get home and drown out her sorrows with some good anime. Just as she was about to leave, she felt a slap on her back.
"Hey Cat! What did Marlene say to you?"
She turned. It was her best friend, and fellow geek, Tandy Birley. Tandy was more of a goth though, and appropriately wore dark attire and make-up. Of course, in truth, she came from a very well-to-do family, though she'd never exploit her money for popularity.
"Oh, nothing Tan. The usual."
"Tsk. You sure I can't hire a hit-man for you? Dad can probably find a good one, real easy."
Cat laughed. "No that's alright. I wouldn't want to get YOU in trouble."
"Tut tut. Assassin's aren't expensive for no reason, but if you're sure."
They made it to the doorway, but Alex got there before them. Being courteous, he motioned for them to go on through first.
"After you, ladies."
Cat blushed but didn't say anything, Tandy answered for her. "Thank Al."
He warmly smiled at them, while Marlene glared at Cat from behind him. Wasn't Cat's fault, Marlene said nothing about Alex HIMSELF speaking to them.

The two girls went to Cat's house to work on some homework and watch anime together. Spending time with Tandy usually put her mind off things, the two had been inseparable friends since the beginning of school last fall. But of course, thoughts of Alex and how to win him over always filled Cat's head. No matter what she did.
"Feels good to have everything done at last for the week." Said Tandy as she stretched, having finished their last assignment. "Tomorrow's Friday, right?"
"Yep." Cat was exceptionally more brighter than Tandy, and usually finished before her. "Need help with anything else?"
"Nope. Just gotta do that stupid reading. What was it again?" She did several finger quotes. "Ancient Magical Studies and Relations to Animals. What a load of bull, I say."
Cat laughed a little nervously. She hadn't mentioned it before, but her parents were both druids and into that sort of beliefs. She had just never brought it up with anyone before, the last thing she needed was more ammunition against her when it came to her whole Marlene issue. Of course, she herself had never really looked into the magical beliefs of her parents.
"Well, I'm going."
"Want me to get dad to drive you home?"
"Nah, I'll walk. No one wants to go near anyone who looks like a vampire in the middle of the night anyway. Later Cat."
She left, and the room got depressingly quiet. Leaving Cat alone with her thoughts about Alex again. She looked at the clock, "9:30". A little early for bed, but there was nothing else to do tonight anyway. She went to her bed and noticed that there was something on top of the covers, it appeared to be a small box with a note.
"Huh, what's this?" Cat said to herself, picking up the note to read it. "'Cat. This is a little something from your father and I. It's a lucky coin. For years it's given me tons of luck and something tells me you need that luck right about now. Don't mention it. Mom.'"
Opening the box, Cat found a very small silver coin. It looked really old, like hundreds of year old. But on the face was a very clear indentation of a cat. Hah, funny. Just like her name. And her favorite animal to boot.
She rubbed the cat with her thumb. "Huh, lucky coin? Well I certainly could use a lot of luck right about now. How about you work whatever magic on helping me get noticed by Alex."
Cat half-expected there to be a sudden spark of magic, like in Cinderella. Maybe bring her up a cup side at least, something! Nothing happened though and she sighed, placing the coin on her bed stand.
"Magic? Yeah right, time for bed." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
