You are visiting the castle with a group of mushroom people. You're one of the few humans in the kingdom. One day, you had found a weird green pipe in your closet and peered in. You then were sucked inside, unable to return. Luckily, Princess Peach Toadstool had allowed you to live in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Every so often (when she isn't kidnapped), Peach allows the people of the mushroom kingdom to visit the castle and look around.
However, this day, Bowser had decided to kidnap Peach again.
As you saw the mushroom people flee from Bowser and his cronies, you decided that you weren't going to wait around for Mario to save the day after Peach was kidnapped.
You looked around and saw a hammer brother getting ready to smash a portrait of Mario. Before he could throw the hammer, you snatched it and used it to smash his head. He vanished back to Bowser's lair to heal, but you still had his hammer. You made your way through the crowd of enemies, until you got to the big turtle himself.
