You walked through the ruins of your home town, it had once supported about a million people but now it was a ghost town. Most of the buildings had been flattened by the constant bombardment from enemy aircraft, leaving only a few buildings left standing and those that remained seemed to be on the verge of collapse. Still, there was still a chance that it contained food as well as ammunition that you needed to survive in these harsh times.
What started the war was not important, the important thing is that you survived. It was mid day judging from the heat of the sun and you were wearing clothes that had been reduced to rags from being worn for months and even years on end. You carried a pistol with you incase you encountered hostile human beings but you were low on ammunition so it was wise to ask question firsts rather than shoot.
Your name was Matthew Steele and you were 20 when the war started, you had no family and no home to go to but you were determined to survive regardless of what it took unless it went against your moral beliefs. You were protected from the sun by a hood but it made you perspire proofusely plus there was often a sense of paranoia as you checked your surroundings for signs of life.
