Kim trotted downstairs, feeling refreshed. School had let out for summer, meaning that she had that much more time to save the world and concentrate on other studies. As she entered the dining room Kim found both of her parents hard at work, as usual. Her dad had recruited the tweebs to help work on some new sort of propulsion system that would be used to send probes to other galaxies. Her mom, however, was poring over numerous medical files.
"Hi mom, what's up?" Kim asked, plopping down beside her mother with a bowl of cereal.
"Oh, hi Kimmie," her mom said, not looking up. "I'm just..." She snapped her head up to look at her daughter. "Kimmie!" Her shout startled the teen, as well as her husband and sons. "How would you like to get your name on a new medical discovery?"
Kim shrugged. "Sure, I guess. What's it for?"
"Well," Anne said, inviting Kim to scoot closer and look over her shoulder, "there are all sorts of diseases and conditions which impede human development. What I'm trying to do is to create an advanced hormone treatment that would affect the various glands in and around the brain, helping to restore the natural balance. Of course," she added almost as an afterthought, "this could also become a safe alternative to plastic surgery, letting people get the looks they've always wanted with greatly reduced risk."
"Sounds interesting. How do I fit in?" Kim asked.
"Well, I need a test subject whom I can monitor 24-7, and unfortunately I just haven't gotten the funding needed to isolate a patient in the hospital and keep them furnished there until results show. So... I'd like to give you the first treatment!"
"Will I have to stop my missions?" Kim asked, a bit worried about what the answer might be.
"Oh, Kimmie, I'd never ask you to do that! No, you just have to keep track of what you did while you were out, and tell me so I can record it. So, are you in?"
