Raynor Swiftrunner - Centaur
Raynor is a centaur who took a job as a guard because it paid quite well, and was much more consistent work than that of being a mercenary or a courier. Granted, it is often times boring, consisting mainly of breaking up the occasional squabble, checking incoming and outgoing caravans for contraband, and other such typical guard duties, at least it's a regular paycheck, which lets him buy the food he need, pay for his rent, and a few other things. While his humanoid half wears armor similar to that of a human, his horse half wears armor similar to that worn by a horse, including, much to his annoyance, something similar to a saddle, along with a set of reins attached to the armor on his torso. He puts up with them because sometimes it's necessary to transport an injured person, guard or citizen, to a healer, and there's always the possibility that someone might blind his eyes in some form or another while carrying someone, meaning he'd need to be guided himself. On his feet, he wears a special kind of boots that can be easily taken off, as he dislikes the idea of having shoes nailed to his hooves like those of a horse tend to be, but they'd still need to be protected anyways. That being said, he does have the ability to run quickly, which is useful when moving someone to another location, or when relaying orders, and can carry a great deal of weight, which is useful when the guards find themselves in some sort of standoff with a group of unlicensed criminals. To his own personal annoyance, some of his gear does require some assistance to put on, and take off.
Munis Stronghoof - Minotaur
Munus is a minotaur who took the job of being a guard in a city, mainly because he disliked the idea of guarding a cave filled with treasure for no real reason. At least, as a guard in a city, one made money and could actually talk to other people. He is very strong, and has a good sense of smell and hearing. He also has no issues in dark places.
Baked Beans - Enchanted Rat
Beans is a rat who once lived off of the trash that wizards tend to throw out. However, a miss-applied spell ended up making him sapient. However, he was still just a rat, and thus still had to deal with cats and rat catchers. Eventually making his way to the Guard Station, he built a nest in Commander Rutabaga's office, that is to say, under the floorboards under the Commander's desk. Here, he learned a lot about the law, and even came to respect the werewolf, who could smell him, yet could never catch him despite his best efforts to locate the rat. One day, the Commander was investigating the home of a serious unlicensed thief, when Beans, who had tagged along in the pack of another guard, unbeknownst to both of them, managed to locate a hidden switch that opened a hidden door, that revealed something far more serious than unlicensed theft, which got the criminal an appointment with the Hangman. Puzzled over the door suddenly opening, once the criminal was taken away, the Commander investigated further, and that was when Beans made his presence known. Recognizing the scent of the rat as the one that had been eluding him in his office, the Commander made the decision to hire the rat, and let him live under the floorboards in his office. While not much use in a standard patrol, or in a fight, for the most part, Beans has proved invaluable when it comes to investigating suspects' homes, and has even saved more than a few kidnapped, or captured, people by biting through their bindings, and leading them to freedom, or bringing help to them.
