He was happy, liked and always willing to help others. The only thing about him, though, that irritated his father to no end, was the fact that Jay was a little lazy sometimes. This meant that Jay was always... Slow.
During P.E. class at school, Jay almost always came in dead last when the kids had to run laps around the soccer field. It wasn't that Jay couldn't run faster, but that Jay was just too lazy to put in the extra effort.
When his dad needed Jay to get groceries out of the car, or to get the mail out of the mailbox, Jay always too a long time.
Now, Jay wasn't fat or overweight or anything. He was just slow and laid back. This would drive his father nuts!
Jay's dad, Harry, worked for a science lab. Harry had developed a secret serum that would speed up a person's legs and arm movements to amazing speeds, increasing rapidly over time. Harry had enough of Jay lagging behind all the time and he had decided that he was going to make his son the fastest kid on the planet!
"Jay! Come here for a sec..." Harry said, as he called Jay to come into his lab in the basement of the house.
The boy got up and slowly stammered his way down the stairs.
"Get a move on, son! Stop being so slow and so lazy!" Harry groaned. He was so tired of Jay being so slow.
"Sit down on the chair." Harry instructed his son, as he grabbed a syringe and filled it up with the serum.
"Wait! What are you doing, dad?"
"I'm gonna give you an injection, son! Your days of being slow are over!" Harry grinned, as he injected the serum into Jay's right shoulder.
After he pulled the needle out, Harry stuck and bandage on the boy's shoulder.
"There! Now, get up and go get the mail!"
Jay got up and started walking to the staircase. But, he started walking faster and faster!
He got to teh staircase so fast, it seemed like he was running!
"Whoa!" Jay grinned. "I'm moving a lot faster than before!"
Then he raced up the stairs and through the living room before he was out the door. Then he came back inside... With the mail, in under 10 seconds!
"There! That's much better!" Harry grinned.
"I... I'm like... fast! Really FAST!" Jay said out of amazement.
"Enjoy your super speed, son!" Harry smiled.
Jay just grinned, turned around, and raced to his room.
With every passing moment, it seemed like he was doing things faster and faster, including studying, writing out his homework, doing dishes, reading and typing on the computer! He had his homework done in under 5 minutes!
"Ohh man... I like THIS!" Jay grinned, as he wondered what to do next....
