The King and Kane

    by: booboosoo
"Your highness, this peace agreement must be signed! The nobels cannot wait any longer." I said.

"My dear Lord Kane," answered the king, "do you question my motives?"

"You are the king. Your motives are those that would benefit your people."

"Then why do you question my motives in this matter?"

"It is not your motives, but rather how you achieve a satisfactory end that I am consired with."

"How so?"

"I know that your goal is to wait until the war gets close enough to our borders so that the nobels will start sending men to fight, but if you wait too long our enemies will be too close to our borders to stop them. I am told that so troops were spotted only two miles from our western border."

"And how do you know this? The king and his advisors are the only ones that know these plans?" inquired the tall and weathily dressed chief advisor in a tone that made me shiver. I knew the advisior would try anything to us my words agaist me. He despreatly wanted me out of the kings hair so he would be his sole advisior.

"My lord, it is more than obvious what you are doing. Lord Hingleton himself informed me that this was your possible motive. I think the other nobels know too. That is why no one is sending troops. They believe that when the enemy comes close enough, you will sign the treaty. That way their knights can stay to protect their lands."
