Chapter #5

Stored in the holo-buffer.

    by: Ash
Geordi continued his diligent work. There might be no patterns left in the transporter buffer, but...YES! The holo-buffer acted as a backup. He started to re-route the patterns when the transporter started making some strange noises.

"Captain, this is LaForge," Geordi exclaimed, "I think I've got them..."

The bodies of Dr. Crusher, Nurse Ogawa, and Geordi froze up for a moment.

"Mr. LaForge! Report!" Picard spoke back.

There was silence.

"Mr. LaForge! Report!" He repeated.

"Captain, this is Riker." Geordi's body spoke, "I don't see Mr. LaForge here, but I'm having trouble seeing much of anything. My vision is strange. Was there some sort of problem with the transport."

"Lieutenant Commander Worf reporting, Captain!" Dr. Crusher's body spoke, "I don't know what sort of prank, Mr. LaForge is playing on you, but he appears fine."

"Fascinating," Nurse Ogawa's body spoke up, "Captain, this is Lieutenant Commander Data speaking, and I believe I may know the cause of this confusion. It appears there has been an unexplained malfunction with the transporter. I am in the body of Nurse Ogawa, Mr. Worf is in the body of Doctor Crusher, and Commander Riker is in the body of Geordi. I will try to figure out how to repair the situation, but we require an additional medical team, as Mr. O'Brien is still in need of some assistance."

The Captain was a little unsure of how to respond. After a moment of hesitation, he simply said, "Thank you, Data."

Meanwhile, Data decided to go to work. He examined the panel that Geordi was working on. He soon realized how limited he was by the humanity of his new body. He couldn't work at breakneck speeds. He felt a moment of frustration. Then he realized another thing--he was FEELING! Human emotions! He had human emotions!
