This choice: Of course, I'm a witch, after all. • Go Back... It was early Saturday morning and you had just finished making your husband's breakfast, after getting your kids, Jan and Chris to come down to eat their breakfast. You made them all pancakes and sausage, which they all ate quickly and ran off to do their own thing. Sighing, you made your breakfast and sat down at the dining room table alone to eat. You greatly enjoyed the few moments of peace, for as long as they lasted. You took your first sip of tea, enhanced with a magic potion to increase your alertness and endurance, when you felt the house shake slightly, followed by Jan's muffled scream, followed by him yelling, "Chris! Get out of my laboratory!"
You giggled to yourself. "The twins are staring their games early today." you whispered.
Jan and Chris were both born with great power, you could sense it the day they were born. Jan became a powerful mad scientist while his sister, Chris became a powerful witch, like yourself. You and your husband fell in love with each other on the battle field between witches and mad scientists. The war had been going on since Vlad Tepees used science to try to gain the power of a witch in order to become invincible. Tens of witches were tortured and killed by him, sparking a war. Other mad scientists emerged as science progressed but it only expanded the war as rogue, or evil, witches attacked them in fear of being 'experimented' on or to reclaim their 'good' name. You met your husband, Simon, during one fight in the empty streets of a remote dessert town. You were a medical witch and he was a 'medicine man', as the mad scientists called their medical team. You were there with a team of witches to shut down a mad scientist base. Neither of you enjoyed the fighting and began to work together, at other battles, healing the wounded on both sides. Unfortunately, this made you and him targets of debate from both witches and mad scientists. Over time, you and he fell in love and ran away from the war, never to look back. It had been fifteen years since then.
As you chewed your food, you heard Chris' muffled yell. "Give me back my wand, Jan, it's not a toy!"
Then another slight shaking of the house followed with Jan yelling, "Ga!! This isn't funny, sis! Change me back!"
"I wonder what Jan has done to himself this time." you thought out loud.
"Boys will be boys." said Simon, rubbing your shoulders. "It's a good thing we both have great hearing. Otherwise, we'd have to let them in on our secret, ruin their secret 'fun and games'."
You let out a low moan of pleasure as your shoulders did feel a little stiff. "I know, honey." you said. "On the bright side, they do really care for each other and they both work hard to keep the other's power a secret."
Simon smiled. "Maybe, someday, the fighting will end and they will meet the rest of the family."
You teared up a little. "That would be wonderful." you said. "If only both sides could see what we see in each other."
"The world is not that simple, Elvira." said Simon, kissing your forehead. he chuckled. "That reminds me, whose turn is it to check up on our two little angels?"
You giggled and replied....
