Inside the book, as mom started reading it to Hannah, you found yourself dressed in the princess dress, standing before her in an elegant mid evil dress of her own. As mom told you, the book was magical and you figured that the story reflected the family it was being used to test.
"Please do not panic, child." said the 'queen'. "I am not only the queen, I am a witch and I have transformed you into my daughter, the princess."
Playing along with the theme of the story, you put on a startled look. "But for what reason, my queen?" you asked. "Had I insulted you in some manner?"
The queen sadly shook her head. "No, child." she replied. "I fear that my daughter, Mellie, hath gone missing!" she choked down a sob. "If the people of my kingdom get word of this, so soon after the king hath passed away, there will be a panic and many, many people will get hurt."
"What is it that you want from me, my queen?" you asked, getting into the part.
"I need you to play the role of my daughter, Mellie until my secret sisters of the witch coven find the real Mellie and return her home to me." replied the queen. "When that day comes, I will return you to your normal male form." she paused. "I hear that you are an orphan here. I will then also adopt you and you will grow up to be the new king!"
"Who would pass a deal like that?" you thought, inwardly smiling.
Then, you returned your focus onto solving the mystery. "I will require three wishes to help me in this deception." you said. "These wishes will be within your power, I promise."
"If I promise you these three wishes, will you agree to being my daughter for a time?"
"I agree." you said.
The queen smiled then changed your voice to match her daughter's. Surprisingly, as you spoke, it was Melanie's voice. "So, Melanie is the princess." you thought. "But that does not solve the mystery."
It was from there that you decided to refer the queen as 'Mum' so to make it easier for you.
"What shall be your first wish... Mellie?" asked mum with a giggle.
"I will need a guide near my age to help me act like a proper princess." you said. "With her help, I will have a greater chance of fooling everyone into believing I am the real princess."
Inside Hannah's bedroom, mom paused. "Very clever, John." she thought. she giggled inwardly. "Now then, who shall this guide be?"
