Minutes later, just as mom was bringing your soup to a boil, a knock came to the door. Hayley answered, warmly greeting Harry and Megan as they stepped inside, smiling. Hayley noticed Megan had an umbrella but said nothing.
"It's good to see you back, Hayley." said Harry. "John was going crazy, worried about where you were and he was not the only one."
"I know but it's a long story." replied Hayley with a sigh. "Mom and I will explain everything once John gets better, he's caught himself a nasty cold."
"Can we see him?" asked Megan. "Maybe we can cheer him up a little."
Hayley winced. "He's really contagious right now, I wouldn't." she said. "Besides, I don't think he's in the mood for any visitors right now."
Harry chuckled. "You vanish for a year without a word and come back to see John sick and decide to play nurse to make it up to him." he said, smiling. then he turned serious. "It's just a cold, we've all had our share, let me see him."
"No one is to go anywhere near John until he gets better." said mom, sternly. "This is for his own good and as a punishment for not having an umbrella with him during yesterday's rain storm."
"He didn't forget his umbrella." said Megan, blushing. "Mine broke yesterday morning and he gave me his." she held out the umbrella. "I had come over to return it. Please let me see him, its my fault he's sick right now."
"I'm sorry but the answer is still no." said mom, calmly. "Though I'm pleased John helped you, he needs his rest." she paused, thinking but seemed to dismiss it. "I'll tell John you visited but I can not allow you to see him for a while, you won't like it if you catch this cold, believe me."
With that, she returned to the kitchen as Hayley winced, mouthing 'sorry' and followed. "Something's going on." said Megan, whispering. "I wonder what."
Harry knotted his jaws in decision. "Let's find out." he said. "Come on."
He began to pull Megan towards the stairs but she seemed hesitant. "I don't know, Harry." she said. "Something in what Ms H said has me a little unnerved."
"She's just being protective." said Harry. "Are you coming with me or not?"
