You cross the living area and make your way to the door. "Who is it?' You decide it best to call through the door. "I'm the Concierge, sir." A male voice answered from out in the hall. "I have brought you your bag, and Polly."
"Polly...?" Feeling a little confused, you open the door and come face-to-face with a effete, balding, middle-aged hotel employee, holding your bag in one hand, and the loop handle of a red leather leash in the other. At the other end of the leash is a German Shepherd, sitting obediently on the shiny marble floor, looking up at you with an intensity that makes you feel a little nervous. The dogs fur is sleek and white, tinging a bit toward yellow as the hallway lights define the contours of its body. For some reason you can't seem to stop staring at the pale canine. Your eyes lock onto hers as you realize without having to look any lower that it's a female, her soft brown eyes drawing you into their liquid depths as it focuses on you to the point where you can't help but wonder what it must be thinking. "Sir...?" The Concierge breaks the strange spell as you find yourself suddenly back at the doorway of your room. "Is that..." Your mouth feels unexpectedly dry as you clear your throat. "Is she your dog?" The Concierge chuckles, giving you a slight bow as if to compliment you for your wry humor. "Oh no, of course not sir." The Concierge smiles, handing you your bag and holding out the loop of the red leather leash out to you. "Polly here comes with the room."
You're taken a little aback as you realize what all those questions were about when you were checking in, but you feel a little too tired from driving to be dealing with a dog. "Why would I want a dog in my room?" You look back at the pale German Shepherd who quizzically cocks her head to one side, almost as if she understands what you're saying. "I'm sure you know the answer to that question already, sir." The Concierge winks conspiratorially as he continues to hold the end of the leash out to you. "A suitable Canine of the guests preference is always provided for the night, compliments of the management of the Dog Pound Hotel."
