"Alright! Wait here, I'll go look for my mom upstairs." I say as she nods satisfied.
I walked upstairs and head towards Karen's room. I opened the door and saw my mom still dressing up with two ear buds plugged in her hears, most likely listening to music. I had forgotten about this little habit of her.
"Mom... MOM!" I half shout, bringing her out of her bubble.
She snap to face me, surprised, putting a hand to her chest to calm herself before taking out her ear buds.
"I'm sorry Matt, what did you say." She asked.
"There's a lady downstairs that wants to talk with you. Says she's your secretary." I answered and her brows furrowed.
"I don't have a secretary." She says slowly. "Give me a few seconds, and I'm coming with you."
So I waited a minute for her to finish dressing in haste and we both came down to the living room where Rachel was waiting. As she heard us coming back, she stood up grinning.
My mom stopped in her track and her frown deepened.
"Rachel! What are you doing here?" She asks, her voice tinted with anger.
"Oh Karen! Can't a person visit her friend from time to time?" Rachel answered sarcastically.
I stare at the scene quizzically, not sure what is unfolding in front of me.
"She's not my secretary Matt, she's a rival of mine!" My mom answered my silent questions after she saw me looking lost.
"And I still want to know what the hell you're doing in my house?" My mom pursued, anger rising.
"Pff you're no fun Karen." Says Rachel. "Let's just say that I have something here that will make our relationship more interesting!"
And with that, Rachel plunges her hand in her purse and takes out...
