A talk about the Hard Line.

Mom ushered Skye and I into the sitting room with dad closing the front door before following us in. There, mom had us all sit down before she began. "The hard Line is a secret group which gives the world a nudge so to become closer to their liking." Serious, mom explained. "They have vast resources and carefully work in the shadows so to avoid detection from the outside world."

"You make them sound like the Illuminati." Wincing, I said.

"The Illuminati is a myth, The Hard Line is real." Darkly, mom said. "They are a larger threat than CHILD and the Agency combined."

"Why are they after this city?" Worried, I asked. "Do all people here have powers?"

"All those born here, yes." Serious, dad said. "You see, the villain, Sykes the immortal thief was after the source the energy he assumed caused this phenomenon. CHILD was after those of the greatest potential born in this city and others to create soldiers for their cause. The Agency was after the technology they assumed caused the phenomenon."

"The Hard Line wants it all." Serious, mom added. "They saw their opportunity after The Problem Child Gang had crippled all three forces then went underground."

"Wait..." Startled, I said. "They were all real?!"

Dad nodded. "They were real." Serious, he replied. "Unlike the enemies the problem child gang faced, the Hard Line is patient. They moved in slowly, almost undetected until children started to disappear."

"They tried to kidnap me." Shuddering slightly, mom said. "That was when I learned I can control the weather and summon birds to my aid."

"They tried the same with me." Frowning, dad said. "I learned that I can manipulate people's minds and emotions." He smiled slightly. "The Resistance called me Con."

"As in con-artist." Guessing correctly, I said. Dad nodded.

"Escaping them was actually how we first met." Ruefully, mom said. "I was no older than you at the time."

"What makes you think this Hard Line is about to make their big push?" Curious, I asked. "Wouldn't they have made their move when they saw their opportunity twenty years ago, as you said?"

"They are very careful to remain within the shadows." Serious, dad said. "We believe they are about to make their big push because the three forces the problem child gang had faced are beginning to resurface."

"Which has already moved a new group of freedom fighters to rise to the challenge." Darkly, mom said. "The new problem child gang..."

"This distraction will be the perfect timing for The Hard Line to move in undetected." Frowning, dad said. "Our window to stop them is narrow at best."

I sighed, taking it all in then slowly nodded. "Count me in."

Mom and dad smiled then turned to Skye as she suddenly gasped, shaking. "What is it, pumpkin?" Worried, mom asked.

"There are people coming to the house." Shivering, Skye said. "They look scary..."

Mom and dad did not question the announcement. They quickly moved Skye and I to...
