You decide the store rooms are the most logical starting place. After all, where would you put your treasure, a dungeon or a guarded store room? As you enter the store rooms, you see a long hallway with rooms on either side. Most of the doors are hanging open or gone entirely. This may not bode well for your treasure hunt, if everything is so easily acceptable. You walk down the hallway, peering from room to room. Aside from the occasional skeleton or broken table, there doesn't appear to be anything of value in here at all. You turn a corner, quickly scanning another set of store rooms, muttering to yourself.
"Hmph. Figures this place'd be picked clean. This is a waste of time..." you tell yourself quietly. But despite your misgivings, you push onward. After all, you've already committed yourself, might as well make a thorough search. As you pass by yet another room you stop: was something different about that last room? You look back, and notice the floor made of a different material than the others. After looking through hundreds of rooms, any differences quickly stand out to you. Its very subtle, but looking closely you can tell the floor is not made of the usual stone. In fact, its wooden! You marvel at the craftsmanship required to make this gray, smooth wood resemble stone so completely. A wonderful piece of deception.
But this means there must be something special about this room! You look around, trying to figure out the puzzle. The room looks just as empty as the others. A small slit of a window lets daylight through the room. The walls appear worn and bare. You pause, confused, tapping the floor impatiently. Something is hidden here, but what?
Suddenly, you hear a creaking sound below you, and look down. A long crack is quickly forming beneath your tapping feet, the old wood finally giving way to the inevitable. Your eyes widen in surprise as you begin to move, but not fast enough. A hole in the floor opens up underneath you, plunging you through. By luck and fast reflexes, you spread your arms wide and catch the floor. The hole doesn't seem big enough to swallow you, but you've sunk up to your arms, just a shoulder and head poking comically out of the hole.
To make matters worse, your tunic caught on the wood, piling under your arms. You feel a cool breath of air over your bare chest and belly, causing goosebumps. Thankfully no one can see this embarrassing predicament, as your cheeks redden slightly at the notion. You try to swing your lower body and pull yourself up, but you can't muster the strength. You may be stuck here for a while. How could this get any worse?
