Get seconds before her parents pick her

What’s the harm in getting seconds? It’ll just burn overnight, she thought. Plus, there were many things she’d still been meaning to try.

When she returned to her table, her plate was loaded full of sugary and greasy foods enough to feed a family of four. She ate fast, not stopping until she was done. She intended to clear her plate like her parents always told her. Ty and Carla stared at her on the fence about saying anything.

As soon as she cleared her plate, she was done. Almost. Just one more plate will be enough, she told herself, but each plate failed to satisfy her ravenous appetite.

Finally, she was done. Her pants were straining and she felt a little drowsy from all the food, but it would all burn off overnight. It would be fine.

Ty and Kim agreed to get picked up by Carla’s parents, and they shared a ride back. Neither Ty not Kim decided to mention Kim’s weight gain on the car ride, or the fact that stopping to eat at that buffet after practice had become pretty regular to them.
