Chapter #6Unfriendly Rivalry by: Unknown It was just another normal-ish day for 7-year old Lilo Pelekai, she and Stitch were on her way to hula class where she would once again have the pleasure of seeing her friends...who, quite honestly, did not treat her like friends at all. They always called her weird, coming up with names like "Weird-lo" to mock her for reasons she just couldn't understand. Just because she needed to give Pudge the Fish a peanut butter sandwich to keep him satiated and homemade doll didn't make her weird!
Thankfully she had Stitch, who in no uncertain terms had become her best friend, always having her back and always protecting her from any danger that her alien-chasing life might throw at her. She also had Victoria, who had moved to her town and joined her hula class and somehow found the things she was interested in really cool. Her being there made it easier to cope with Mertle and the others putting her down all the time.
As she walked through the door of the school, she saw all the girls huddled around Mertle for some reason, clamoring as if she were a queen of some kind. Lilo rolled her eyes as Stitch blew a raspberry in annoyance, this seemed to be the norm when it came to Mertle and her posse, whatever Mertle did was deemed amazing, even if she did nothing at all. As she went over to put down her bag, she overheard some of the discussion taking place.
"So are you the tallest kid in class now?"
"I should be, after all I'm the best dancer and the smartest too. It only makes sense I should be the biggest, and after my growth spurt, I should be!"
"Let's see, I wanna measure!"
"Me too!"
Yuki, Teresa and Elena all took turns standing back to back with Mertle, and while Yuki and Elena were indeed shorter than Mertle, Teresa was about the same size, and Lilo knew just by looking that Victoria was still taller than Teresa, so that she meant she was taller than Mertle too...not that Victoria was going to say anything, she figured all of the arguing was a waste of time. Lilo smiled when Victoria waved her over, and the other girls crossed their arms in annoyance.
"You're on time today!" Victoria joked.
Lilo laughed back. "Yeah, Pudge wasn't hard to find today, I gave him his peanut butter sandwich and hurried over...but I dried off this time first."
"Leave it to Weird-lo to make feeding a fish a priority over hula class."
"YEEEEEAAAAAHH!"
Victoria and Lilo both made a face at the girls' snarkiness. "Anyway, you wanna meet up later?" Victoria finally asked.
"Sounds like fun!"
"Yeah, playing your little girl games sounds like a lot of fun." Mertle scoffed and put her hands on her hips. "You wouldn't fit in with us big girls anyway."
"I'm still taller than you Mertle, just knock it off already." Victoria rolled her eyes.
"But she's not!" Mertle pointed accusingly at Lilo. "Go ahead Freak-lo, stand next to me and we'll settle this."
"Fine!"
"Lilo, don't!" But it was too late, Lilo went over and gave in to Mertle's taunting, prompting Victoria to smack her palm against her face.
And sure enough, when they stood back to back, Lilo was just a tiny bit shorter than Mertle. "See? I'm bigger than you now, so you have to do what I say from now on!"
"Yeeeeeaaaaahh!"
"Yeah, I don't think so." Lilo walked off and went over to Stitch, who seemed concerned by what just happened.
"Lilo?"
"Mertle drives me crazy Stitch!" Lilo grumbled quietly. "There's gotta be a way to get her to back off about this!"
