This choice: One Little Maverick; coming right up! • Go Back...Chapter #10In Space, Anything is Possible. by: Lelouch S.D 10, the year of the journey of the SRF-003 Calnus; a ship whose journey is of the most vital importance, the year where man officially began his search for a suitable home among the stars. Originally one of several ships the Calnus is alone in its mission, guided by its capable, if not unusual crew; half of which weren’t even from Earth. In charge of navigations, Reimi Saionji , Bacchus D-79, and Arumat. Meracle, Lymle, Sarah, and Myuria the rest of the crew who usually lounged around the ship, their talents more useful in the field than the ship itself. And lastly there was the captain, Edge Maverick; one of the youngest out there as well as one of the best. Since his mission began Edge had recruited his crew from all over the galaxy; a colorful bunch to be certain but they were the best, and more importantly; Edge’s friends.
At the moment the crew was more or less, boredly waiting. In the midst of light speed travel that was all they could do; the Calnus practically flew itself. Unfortunately this particular trip would take about a week to do; a week of being trapped in the ship. Lymle took to drawing her various symbols all over the ship, anyone who tried to stop her essentially gave up before long. Meracle and Sarah stayed in the lobby and played with each other to pass the time, while not even ten feet away Myuria enjoyed herself at the ship’s bar. At the front of the ship Bacchus spent most of his time calculating various things; as well as making sure the Calnus didn’t experience any issues midflight. Arumat did as he always did; hide himself in one of the cargo rooms and train. Reimi was the only one who couldn’t seem to stay in place; she switched between playing with Lymle, to training, to simply wandering in boredom. As for Edge; like a true Captain he spent the majority of his time asleep. That is to say; until something quite different happened.
(I realize for snoring this sucks but bear with me.) “Huaah….hooo…huah…hoo.” The rhythm of Edge’s snores had grown to a familiar, almost soothing, sound to any in the upper levels of the Calnus. Being Captain Edge worked harder than anyone and showed no signs of exhaustion; until it came time for warp travel, mid warp you’d be lucky to find the young man awake. Being asleep, Edge did not notice his left hand, the glowing symbol donned on it. A symbol he knew of, but was not currently using. It was reacting to something. A symbol by one of the symbologists, one of the many inventions of Bacchus, whatever it was it didn’t matter. What did were the results. It wouldn’t be for the better half of a day before Edge would awaken and realize anything.
15 Hours Later…
“Ugh…” Grunts escaped Edge as he sat up, still half asleep he stood up and started walking. “Food….food…….” His stomach was essentially talking for him, he was dying for something to munch on! Maybe a shower afterwards too, something to wake him up a little bit. He couldn’t sleep through the entire warp after all, a Captain has to show some example. Granted his crew more than understood he needed the rest. Edge started to scratch his rear, “Man, kitchen seems awfully far, it almost looks like…” Edge’s eyes widened in an instant, “….like I’m still on my bed. The heck? I’ve been walking for five minutes! I should at least be out of my room.” It was a few more huffed steps before Edge stopped again, his slowly awakening “Wait…walk…on my bed…?” It a took a moment before the full force of that to hit, but when it did Edge looked around with a full alertness in his eyes. “The heck!? Why is my bed suddenly a great plain?!” Instinctively Edge reached for his sword; grasping only air.“Damn, forgot. I take it off whenever I enter the Calnus.”
Fully alert now Edge surveyed his surroundings, everything seemed the same…just much larger than he’d ever hoped to see. Heck, Edge felt like an ant! Wait…an ant…Edge thought he woke up somewhere else but…what if…”What if I shrunk!?” It seemed a ludicrous idea but with it in mind it seemed to fit perfectly, everything looked, felt and even smelled the same; just a different size. Either the Calnus went through a growth spurt, or Edge got downsized. The blonde young man racked his brain for how this could have happened, the Grigori? An enemy’s Symbol? Just some freak accident in space? They all seemed likely, and all made Edge realize something.
“If I’m tiny then so must my friends! I have to help them!”
Filled with resolve now Edge didn’t continue with his calm collected approach, he took off running right to the edge of his bed. Thank God he didn’t sleep with the blankets on; otherwise some mountainous creases would have made it much harder. Still took Edge a good ten minutes to reach the cliff though, man he was small! Once at the edge of his bed Edge faced a new issue though, how to get down. He didn’t have time for anything fancy like a plan so he just did what he did best, Edge winged it. Grabbing a hold of the soft fabric Edge used it like a fire escape and slid himself down. It wasn’t a perfect slide of anything but it worked and Edge got the floor safely. On the ground Edge felt even smaller, he landed near a crumb, a crumb which was bigger than him….a crumb he wouldn’t even see at normal size.
“Man am I glad there are no bugs in space, otherwise this could be real dangerous.”
No threats in a clean environment like space though, Edge was in no danger whatsoever. But his friend’s may have been, so he continued his rushed pace towards the door. Again arriving in minutes…a lot of minutes…the better half of an hour. But he made it; and encountered a new problem he didn’t consider. The door wasn’t opening. It was an automatic door, rigged to open through pressure plates and/or scanners, but Edge was too small to trigger either of them. He was locked in.
“DAMN!” Edge angrily punched the metal before him, “If I can’t open this door I can’t get to my friends! I have to get it open I have t-“
Wssh..
The door…opened? Edge couldn’t believe it! This had to be the luckiest break of his….his happiness stopped in a heartbeat. The door didn’t open for him, there was something on the other side…something big. The door came in from the side so all Edge could see was…well nothing, but as it opened further more and more became visible…and soon Edge found himself staring at the biggest toes he had ever lain eyes on. Each one literally a mountain to him, heck he could see the body oils clearly! That was not a good thing! A slight smell wafted too, nothing too bad though. Edge was curious though, who was this!?
He strained his neck to look up, things got pretty blurry past the knee but he recognized the person instantly and he knew one thing…his friend’s were fine. That became dreadfully clear as Edge looked at…
