Chapter #6

Heading to Aerith's

    by: Lelouch Author IconMail Icon
Aerith slammed her fist into her open palm like she made a decision, " Let's go to my place and see if we can fix you right on up!"

Spiky haired Cloud seemed less certain but he nodded once; not that it mattered because just as he started to nod Aerith already reached down and wrapped her fingers around Cloud's body, carrying him around like she just plucked a small bug from the ground. Gently Aerith placed him on her right open palm and started walking back through Sector 7 to get back to her home.

Constantly her eyes darted to Cloud, filled with worry but surprisingly they were also filled with a ironic sort of humor. It just seemed funny to Aerith that Cloud; SOLDIER 1st class, master swordsman, and heroic bad boy was literally nothing but a small bug on her palm. Fate was funny like that.

Cloud saw the irony too but he obviously found significantly less joy in it, he didn't like relying on anyone for anything. Sephiroth taught him that and now he was to trust everything about him to Aerith? It's not that he didn't trust her but he didn't like feeling weak. Cloud felt powerless, should a foe like The Turks show up Aerith was on her own, heck even a weakling grunt of a monster would prove too much for Cloud at his size. Fortune seemed to favour them though, for once no monsters seemed to be patrolling the slums and there was no sign of Shinra or The Turks either, Cloud and Aerith could rest easy.

"So what's it like?" Aerith asked, breaking the silence the two had ever since they started to walking.

Apparently indifferent Cloud looked back at Aerith, " What do you mean?"

"Being small." Aerith elaborated. " Being as big or maybe small than my pinky. I mean, I must look huge! Like a god or some kind of gigantic monster."

"Most monsters aren't that cute." Cloud smirked.

Aerith's cheeks puffed as if she was slightly mad, "Most? So you're saying there is a monster out there cuter than me?"

"I didn't think you were an ego maniac nor the jealous type." The shrunken hero replied with a deviant grin.

"Keep talking and I might make you walk yourself to my house, or just hand you to Yuffie."

"You wouldn't do that to me would you?" Cloud sounded confident but slight sweat building up showed Aerith's words had a deep effect.

Looking at her little friend the Ancient stuck her tongue out teasingly. " I guess that depends on how much of a gentleman you'll be."

Cloud turned away from Aerith, " Chivalry is dead, besides I doubt my jacket would cover a puddle for you. Not that I even have a jacket to offer."

Aerith eyed her brown boots, " True...I guess I could settle for you cleaning the dirt and water off of them when we get home."

Turning back to Aerith Cloud flashed a witty smirk, " You're nowhere near as innocent as you act. But that's why I like you."

"And you're nowhere near as tough as you act but that's why I like you." Aerith retorted.

After a moment the two laughed; just in time too as Aerith's home came into view. In complete contrast to Midgar's gloomy slum-like society Aerith's house was bright, shined by light, surrounded by hundreds of flowers she planted. It might as well have been in an entirely different world apart from Midgar.

At the front was Aerith's mother, sweeping the porch clean with a broom. She gave a small wave to Aerith but didn't show any true attention to anything other than sweeping. Aerith waved back with her free hand, grateful that her mother was too busy to notice Cloud in her palm.

Aerith opened the door and just like that Cloud felt like he was at peace; it was the kind of effect Aerith's home had on people, like it was a sanctuary. Aerith however, was more preoccupied with running up to fix Cloud so she stormed up the steps towards her room. Upon entering she shut her door softly and locked it as a precaution. Then, very gently she placed Cloud on her dresser counter as she sat herself down on the bed beside it.

"So what's your idea for fixing me?" Cloud asked.

Aerith appeared lost in thought and took a moment to look back at Cloud...
