You cannot help but notice something as Yasmina is writing in her book.
"Hey, you look a little... different." you say to her quietly, not wanting to get the teacher annoyed again. She puts down her pencil and looks you in the eye.
"Different?" she asks, looking herself down. "I do not feel different!"
"Put your hand against mine for a second," you request. She looks at you quizzically but obeys nonetheless, and you observe that her hand is roughly the same size as yours. She was shorter than you, shouldn't it be smaller by proportion? Maybe she just has big hands...?
"I could swear you..." you exclaim, trailing off at the end as you notice Yasmina giving you a very understanding look, here deep blue eyes staring into yours.
"Can I tell you something?" she asks, and you nod quickly. Where was this going...?
She leans in close to you and whispers very quietly: "Sometimes when I become very irritated at a person or stressed, I can become taller by a small amount."
Your eyes nearly pop out in disbelief. So you were right!
"Uh, what!?" you say in a hushed voice. She smiles a little.
"You must believe me. It is normally only for 4 or maybe 5 hours and then I return to normal. And it is only a tres petite amount."
"How much?" you ask in disbelief. She glances at the teacher to check if he is watching.
"Maybe half of a foot at the very most when I become very irritated. But the doctor says it could be more. Therefore I try to keep cheerful so that it does not happen."
You chuckle slightly nervously at the Yasmina who now matches your height roughly, give or take about half an inch. You'll have to keep her away from Brian then, as he often annoys people without realising it. He wouldn't be happy about that though.
"You will not tell anyone, oui?" she asks. "I trust you to keep it a secret."
"Your secret is safe, as long as no-one else notices it!" you reassure her. She smiles sweetly at you and carries on with her work as normal. So why did she have the urge to tell you of all people? And why so soon? Part of you wants to stress her out on purpose just to see her apparent increase in size, but that would be cruel. It would be best to just leave her be for the time being, and try to distance her from Brian and a few others you can think of who might get on her nerves, such as Beth, who is basically the polar opposite of Yasmina in every way: short, curvy, spiteful and generally not a nice person. Although you have to admit it would be interesting if they were to meet. Maybe Yasmina could grow and show her who's boss...?
...No, that's ridiculous, right?
