Quickly shutting the door, not wanting to be disturbed any further by your family (and especially not wanting your twin sister to see you with one of the nerdiest girls in school, knowing how much she'd stick she’d give you), you turned back round to find Veronica gazing it awe at your frankly rather less than impressive and quite untidy room.
"Oh my God....wow!" she beamed, her eyes wide and giant grin painted across her face, "I can't believe I'm actually in your bedroom! This is so amazing, it's just like I've always imagined!"
"Yeah, uh, it's...it's not that special or anything," you replied, still somewhat unnerved by Veronica's weird, stalkerish behavior, but glad at least that it was a little toned down from what it had been when she was inside Ms. Holsten's body. Undeterred by your words however, Veronica continued her excited exploration of your room, letting out the odd little squeal and yelp every time she came across an old photo or some item of clothing you'd once worn to school (seemingly having either a photographic memory or some sort of catalog of your school wardrobe over the last 2 years), before plonking herself happily down on your bed.
"This is just the best day ever; first that old stone gives me magic powers and now this; us, boyfriend and girlfriend. It's just like out of some kind of fairy story."
"Yeah, yeah it is, exactly like that," you told her with a smile, lying through your teeth as you very gingerly joined her on the bed, a little creeped out by the thought of her actually being your "girlfriend"; her greasy, unkempt brown hair and laughably nerdy appearance being enough to put anyone off, never mind her overly obsessive personality. Still, it was too late to back out now, you'd already got her on your side and as unappealing as Veronica was, the power she now possessed was more than an adequate reward for your sacrifice. First things first though, you thought to yourself, gently placing your hand on top of hers and giving her another reassuring smile, it was time to find out exactly what she could do and how she was able to do it. "So, uh, Veronica, these powers you have...you say you got them from an old stone?"
"I think so yeah," she replied, snuggling up to you again, her big brown eyes staring dreamily into your own, "or at least I can't think what else it could have been." Probing further, Veronica then revealed she had been walking home alone from school yesterday (after having apparently followed you and your best friend Jimmy for a good 20 minutes) pining to herself about how she'd never get you to notice her, when she came across a very strange looking stone lying in the dirt, covered with ancient runes and symbols, the sort of geeky historical and fantasy stuff that was right up her alley. "...And when I picked it up there was like this weird sort of wave of like...I dunno, electricity or something, shooting right through my body and then it was like I just knew, I just knew I could take over other people's bodies. I can't really explain it."
"Wow, that's incredible!" you responded, genuinely intrigued by her tale, and even more so by this apparently magical stone she'd discovered. "So do you...you know, still have the stone?" you then inquired, trying to be as subtle as possible, eager now to get your hands on it, knowing full well that if you had the same powers as Veronica, you could stop pretending that you actually liked her and possess anyone you wanted yourself.
Happily grabbing for her schoolbag, apparently oblivious to your true motives (or so it seemed), Veronica grinned and said, "Sure, I've got it right here," before pulling out a small, perfectly round, dark gray stone, it's surface covered in peculiar white patterns, and handing it straight to you.
Letting out a nervous little gulp, feeling yourself becoming overcome with anticipation and excitement, you quickly snatched the stone in both hands and pulled it towards your chest, as if you were cradling an injured bird. However, far from feeling anything even remotely like electricity shooting through your body, or phantom voices talking in your head, all you could feel was the cold, smooth stone clutched tightly in your hands, and not much else. Seeing the obvious look of surprise and disappointment in your face, Veronica then let out another giggle, seemingly well aware of what you had assumed was going to happen and finding it rather amusing that it hadn't.
"You thought it was going to give you powers to didn't you?" she laughed, muffling her mouth with her hand, "You're such a silly-Billy, Tim, it already gave all of its magic to me."
"I uh...I, I wasn't..." you awkwardly stammered, trying to cover both your embarrassment and disappointment, hiding your blushing face by staring down at the stone "...I just uh, I just wanted to see it is all."
"Hee-hee, whatever you say, silly, but I knew it wouldn't work. Wanna know how?"
"Uh, suh-sure..."
"Cause after I found it and picked it up, Stinky Stevens from our Geography class came up behind me and stole if from me, just to torment me like he always does. Only this time while trying to get it back I was concentrating so hard on the stone in his hand that the next thing I knew...POOF...it wasn't in his hand anymore, it was in mine...and what was even weirder was; I was actually him!"
"Really? Wow...that, that's amazing," you gulped, feeling once again intimidated by the extent of Veronica's powers, knowing all too well that at any moment she could take complete control of your body, just like she'd done with Stinky Stevens, just like she could now do with anyone that crossed her, as you hoped to God that your eagerness to get hold of her powers hadn't put you in her bad books as well.
