A pleasant breeze blew in from the west as John Wolfstone made his way home from school. Thoughts of his family and the dinner his would be making consumed his mind as he took his usual stroll through the neighborhoods. Residents of various species all stopped to wave at him while he responded in kind. Class was appreciatively uneventful as not a single student attempted to eat one another. As a matter of fact, this day was so abnormally good and peaceful, filling him with so much happiness that John actually considered skipping the rest of the way home. Sadly it was not to be.
“Why don’t you just move out of my way meat?” a deep thunderous voice sounded.
“Oh make me piss for brains.” This voice was significantly lower in pitch and volume.
John looked around and found the source of the commotion across the street. A 10ft dragon with dark red scales was staring down at a Caucasian human girl not more than 10 years old. The dragon snarled, baring his rows of razor sharp teeth. Meanwhile the girl was standing her ground. She didn’t budge an inch as she stared into the dragon’s large yellow eyes.
“Hey!” John shouted, gaining the attention of both the girl and the dragon. He moved briskly across the street with a stern look on his face. Standing between the two he glanced from one to the other.
The dragon’s name was Heinrich, an immigrant from Germany where the laws regarding predation are even worse than those in the rest of the country. He’s been something of a troublemaker but until now no one had died. The girl on the other hand was unfamiliar. She wore plain clothes, carried neither bag nor backpack, and had a gaze that made John’s skin crawl.
“What’s the problem here?” John asked.
“This stupid child refuses to let me pass.” The dragon answered.
Looking at the girl, John asked “Well? What do you have to say for yourself?”
She looked up at John and gave a rather unusual expression. Most children look him up and down to gage his height, monster or not he was a tall humanoid, but this one went straight for the face. She had a look of puzzlement and deep thought. “You look familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?”
