The Arena Master's voice was barely audible over the crowd's chants. Ryan watched as Shalar strode out into the center of the Arena, dust rising at his feet. Then Ryan strode out to meet him, drawing his sword as he went.
"I bear you no ill will, but if I have to kill you, I will." Shalar said. It was obvious by the look in his eyes that he was telling the truth. Still, Ryan showed no fear.
"Even though I am Harac's grandson?" he asked quietly. Shalar seemed startled. He may have known that in some way Ryan was related to the dead wizard, but he didn't know that he would be so frank.
"I hope that you did not turn out the same way as him." Shalar replied, and then crouched, preparing to attack.
