Tyger came at him out of the sun, the only clue of her attack a slight glitter from one of her dirks. She's careful, she holds the blades straight so they reflect little light at me... But Shalar's sharp eyes had caught the faint glitter, and he dove to the right, rolled, and stood, bringing his four arms up in a double cross over his chest. Weak golden light spattered the ground, reflecting from his bronze clawblades.
"Wily one, aren't you? No matter, Shalar. Your insults this morning will be paid in blood." Tyger shot at him again, charging in low with both dirks. Involuntarily, Shalar took a step back. His smooth white hide felt the cold stones of the Arena walls. Damn, my back against the wall already. She'll kill me if I stay here... But with only forwards to go, he would have to break past Tyger to evade her.
As she neared him, he crouched low on his powerful legs, and leapt into the air, aiming over Tyger's head...
