Just then, Kelsey opened the door. Dennis was forced to do a double-take, staring at the massive figure that had made an appearance. Kristen, still smiling confidently, looked towards the doorway and her expression started to fade, being replaced with a look of jealousy and anger. Dennis glanced over at Kristen and hoped never to be on the receiving end of that stare.
Kelsey stepped over the threshold, wearing only a tank top and shorts. Her physique was clearly larger than her roommate’s, which on her more compact frame, was saying a lot.
“Oh, hi, Kristen,” she said. “Hope I’m not interrupting anything. I didn’t know you were having company over tonight.” Her eyes found Dennis and they moved up and down his body, taking in every detail. Then she smiled at him. It was very clear to them both that Kelsey had barged in on purpose.
“I thought you were supposed to be at the gym tonight,” Kristen replied crossly.
“I was,” she replied, finally looking back at her roommate. “Have to keep growing this body, you know?” She glanced over at the weights in the room. “Oh, are you still using only 1.000 pounds? I was well beyond that point weeks ago.” She obviously enjoyed being more powerful than Kristen and had no problem at all with rubbing it in.
“Yeah, well, I’ll catch up with you soon.”
“By which time, I’ll be even bigger and stronger than I am now.” With that, Kelsey walked over to the bar and lifted it with incredible ease, doing a series of curls before lowering the weight, then flexing an arm. “See? Already a quarter of an inch larger. And that wasn’t even a warm up for me.” She stole another glance at Dennis, enjoying the effect she was having on him.
“But…you started lifting younger than me,” Kristen retorted, losing steam, appearing less confident with each passing second.
“That’s no excuse,” Kelsey told her. “I can already bench press well over 2,000 pounds and can deadlift and squat much more than that. And the people at the gym keep sending in bigger and bigger weights. You should see some of the machines they have for me now.”
Dennis tried to picture it: The 5 foot tall Kelsey grinding out rep after rep on the bench press, lifting weights thicker than tires, a crowd gathered around every time she worked out.
“And I plan on being even stronger. A LOT stronger.”
“Well, we’re already the two strongest people on Earth,” Kristen said.
“We’re not stronger than Superman yet.”
“Well, since he’s a fictional character that never really existed in the first place, I don’t think he counts,” Kristen told her roommate coldly.
“A girl can dream though, can’t she?”
And so could Dennis. He could make it a reality for her, too. He began to imagine her strength surpassing superhuman levels. Able to press tons of weight for warm ups. Able to deadlift and squat on machines only Superman himself would find challenging. Machines that could handle hundreds of thousands of pounds and have Kelsey lift them as if they weighed nothing at all!
But then he thought of Kristen, already self-conscious because her roommate was stronger than she was. What would happen to her self-esteem if Kelsey left her so far behind, there would be no chance for her to catch up? Should he make Kristen superhumanly strong, or just Kelsey?
Bringing the camera up to his face again, while the two ladies continued to argue, Dennis…
