James showed up

    by: ro34 Author IconMail Icon
The sun had begun its descent, casting a warm glow through the living room window as Christina stood before the mirror, nerves tingling in her gut. The dress she wore flowed smoothly over her new curves, the fabric shimmering softly as she shifted. It was a pastel pink, a color that had always felt far removed from Chris's more subdued palette of grays and blues. Now, somehow, it felt right. Her long, silky hair tumbled down her back in gentle waves, framing her face and accentuating her blue eyes. Yet, beneath the surface beauty was a whirlpool of anxiety.

The doorbell rang, sending a jolt of electricity through her. James. Christina had known about his impending visit, but now that the moment had arrived, the uncertainty clawed at her insides. She had known James for years; he was Chris's best friend, loyal and supportive, but she had no idea how he would react to her transformation.

Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself, smoothing the dress down as she walked to the door. With a subtle push, she opened it to find him standing on the doorstep, a playful grin lighting up his handsome face. The moment their eyes met, her breath caught in her throat.

“Wow,” James exclaimed, his eyes widening as he took in her appearance. “You look… incredible.” His voice had softened, losing the playful bravado that she was used to.

Christina felt her cheeks grow warm at the compliment. “Thanks,” she replied, trying to sound more confident than she felt. “Do you want to come in?”

James nodded and stepped inside, glancing around as if soaking in the surroundings. “So, what did you do today, besides looking like a total knockout?”

“I, um... got through my classes,” she said, scratching the back of her neck nervously. “It was... different.”

“Different how?” His eyes sparkled with genuine curiosity, and she knew she had to be honest, though every word felt like an uphill battle.

“I don’t know, it was just a hard day…” … she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.

James's expression softened, and he stepped closer, the playfulness giving way to understanding. “I can understand that there are such days, but don’t worry; you still have me. I mean, we literally grew up together. You’ll always be the best friend I can have to me, even if you’re a hot girl.”

His statement about the hot girl hung in the air, it felt entirely wrong, even so it was unfortunate true, very true considering the dress she was wearing…
