He revved up the great old pick-up and began to drive.
"It's raining," Luis said softly as the rain fell hard over the windshield.
"No dip, Sherlock," Hannah said laughingly, but stopped laughing when she saw that he had to press his face against the glass just to see.
"Hannah, do you have your seatbelt on?" he asked.
"Yes," she said, growing frightened.
"Don't freak on me. Please try to get mine on." She did so quickly, and sat back in her seat. He felt the car jump over a curb and start sliding out of control. He swung one arm around to guard Hannah as he tried to regain control to the car. Finally, smelling fumes and coming to a halt against a huge tree on the edge of a ditch, with her on the safe side, he ordered her out.
"Get out, Hannah. Run as fast as you can away from here. Now."
She got out of the car and screamed to see it fall into the ditch. She felt planted in one place as Luis and his car flew down towards the earth.
He fought to stay put and unhurt, but landed on the roof of the car and had to fight to escape, dislocating his shoulder in the process. Finally he was out, pulled neck, dislocated shoulder, and all. He ran as fast as he could out of the car from there, and felt Hannah grasp his good hand. Onyl seconds after they turned a corner, a huge explosion occured.
Drenched in rain and in great pain, Luis was led to shelter by Hannah. He smiled at her, and she smiled back. They were safe.
