Meanwhile, further into the caverns, deep in dark chambers which have never seen the light of day, something horrendously old and horrendously wicked stirred. Horribly emaciated fingers reached out of the darkness towards a softly glowing orb of glass, pulling it closer so it may study it more intimately. As the sickly luminescence drew closer to the creature's face, it was reflected in its unblinking eyes like two little skulls. He grinned hungrily as he peered into the depths of the crystal sphere, seeing the visitors as they arrived through the door. It had been quite a long time since he had felt pleasure, and this was a pleasant surprise indeed...

The two adventurers continued deeper into the tunnels, lighting torches as it became darker. They had come searching for treasure, a long lost trove that had fallen into legend, but was rumored to be in these very caves. Both were members of the local Exploration Guild, so both had been around the block a few times, yet there was still something different about the place, and the man and wolf could feel it.
It didn't comfort either at all when the tunnels suddenly split off into three directions.
"Hmm...." Johannna pondered, leaning against the wall, "We'll have to split up if we want to cover this whole place..."
Richard looked up at her as if she were mad, "Split up! What if there are traps, or one of us gets captured or..."
"The man we asked about this place told us it was abandoned," she said, placing her paw on his head and tussling his hair teasingly, "Besides, I thought you were sneaky?"
She ignored his grumbling as she decided in which direction to go...
