He turned to his wife with a frown on his face and described the two strange employees he'd seen.
"Strange, yes. But, strange people have to work somewhere, dear," she said, quite reasonably. "We've already checked in, and it's just till we can get the car fixed. It isn't as if this road is littered with places to stay."
"Let's just go to the room and get settled in," he said, sighing. She was usually the reasonable one. He was the one who usually flew off the handle.
In the basement, Professor Moriarty, the owner of the hotel watched them on the monitors. "Taking issue with my staff," he muttered. In truth, Michelle and Dominic...or Mike and Dominique, as they'd been when they showed up, had not shown up as staff. "Well, perhaps it is time for a staffing change," he muttered, flooding the elevator with gas and ordering it to drop to the basement. Sometimes, he observed his subjects more before starting on them. But, he'd start straight away with these four.
He picked up the phone. "Send Michelle and Dominic down please," he said. "Gift-wrapped," he told the person on the other end.
