Wish his parents were there.

Steven simply wished his parents were there (with the necklace's help), and were actually around more often. And so it happened. Of course, this didn't go as planned.

As Steven wore the necklace, his parents took note. His Mom said, "Steven, why are you wearing that necklace? It looks so very...feminine." His Dad said, "Don't bother him honey, maybe it's for a girl he likes. You never know, right?" Steven nodded as "R.J." said, "I think I have cheerleading practice tonight...so I'll be home a bit late, okay?"

With the thoughts of cheerleaders and "femininity" in Steven's head, the necklace:
