Andrew’s mom comes over to Alex to console him and calm him down. She does the same thing she did to her own son. She caresses his “big” bare feet and toes. Alex seems to calm down a little and smiles as she whispers to him that his has cute toes and kisses his big toe.
Andrew’s dad stays with his son holding his hand and saying everything will be alright.
The doctor and nurses continue to perform tests on both boys, but can’t determine a remedy or antidote.
Alex’s parents and brother comes rushing in having been called by the hospital. His brother Austin, who is two years younger comments on the size of his brother’s bare feet. He says…whoa dude, you don’t need flippers bro…your feet will work just fine. His mom taps him on the head and says to be quiet. Alex’s mom consoles her son and takes over Andrew’s mom by caressing his bare leg and bare foot. Austin secretly slips off one shoe and sock and places his ten inch, tan bare foot up on the gurney and compares it with his brother’s big foot. He wiggles his toes touching his brother’s bare soles that makes him flinch. Alex’s mom again tells Austin to settle down and to put his sock and shoe back on his bare foot. Instead, Austin puts his bare foot down and sits down in a chair. He ends up taking his other shoe and sock off saying his feet were hot. Their appearance looks okay, but he needs a pedicure since some callous can be seen on the sides and heel and his nails are jagged a bit.
A while later, both boys stop growing and are stable. The doctor says they are working on a serum that may work, but needs some blood from their families. They take turns leaving and getting blood drawn. Austin, still barefoot, steps on a sharp object on the floor and cuts his toe. He says he is okay, but sees his bloody toe and faints.
