"You know, now that I think about it, this elevator's kinda weird."
Jake looked at David, puzzled.
"Dude, what are you talking about?"
David let his eyes wander. "I don't know...we have like, what? Three elevators in the whole school? And only one of them has a fourth floor button?"
Jake rolled his eyes. "And here I thought you were excited to get to the fourth floor."
"I am!" He protested, "It's just-"
The elevator stopped. Both boys looked at the elevator's display, which was stuck on a flashing 3.
"Damn!" Jake hissed. "Does that mean we're stuck?"
David shrugged. "Probably not. Maybe the button was just a dud."
Jake nodded in agreement. He grinned. "So...do I get my score back?"
David playfully punched his shoulder. "Fuck you." Jake chuckled.
"Ooh, the freshies will flip when they hear you cuss!"
David rolled his eyes. "For the last time, you were literally one a couple of months ago!"
Jake shrugged. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
The conversation faded, the boys' focus turning back to the situation at hand. The red three on the elevator's display was dim, pulsing, and the four button that was pressed earlier no longer held its yellow glow. As the elevator continued to hum, the boys found themselves in a predicament. They could press the fourth floor button again, and hope that it takes them somewhere else. Or, they could go back down, and try again?
