"What about this one?" the prince asked, as Fia eavesdropped, ear glued to the door.
"Why is that scroll the same color as my hair?" the woman added. "Did you make a scroll to turn someone into me?"
"Err, well not exactly," the scribe replied. "I suppose you could say it's inspired by you, if you were more... ladylike."
"I won't lie, I want to see this," Kelos added.
"Well, I have no desire to be more ladylike. But if you want to use it on yourself, feel free," the woman replied.
Fia giggled at the thought of the prince using a scroll to turn into a woman.
"How long does this scroll last, scribe?"
"That's not really intended to be used, it's an experiment so I didn't really set a time on it. It won't be permanent... I'd say a few hours, probably."
"I don't like probably."
"Apologies, my prince, but as I said, it's an experiment."
"Come on, Kel, do it! We can excuse the Prince's absence for a few hours."
As she heard those words from the other side of the door, a mischievous idea popped into the transformed Princess Fia's head. She'd wait until Prince Kelos transformed, then in her disguised form, deliver an invitation to tea in an hour and a half, before the scroll would wear off.
"I suppose there isn't anything scheduled until tonight. Scribe, are you absolutely sure the scroll will wear off by then?"
"Fairly sure, my Prince."
"If anything goes wrong, I'll have your head," Kelos threatened.
"Do it already, Kel!"
"Fine." With that the prince opened the scroll.
"Oh wow, you look like you could be my twin sister!"
"It looks like the scroll worked perfectly. Thank you for testing it, Princess."
"Prince!" Kelos pouted in a new, feminine voice.
Fia decided this was the perfect time. She knocked loudly on the door. The knock was greeted with immediate silence on the other side. Clearly the Grovani delegation was frozen in place, panicking about what to do. Fia knocked again. "Pardon the intrusion, I come with a message from Princess Fia!" she called out.
After a few moments, the door opened cautiously. A woman with long, wavy brown hair cautiously peeked out. "Is... is the message for m..err Prince Kelos?"
"Yes, may I enter and deliver it to him?" Fia asked.
"Well... I... that is Prince Kelos is indisposed at the moment."
"I see. My mistress, Princess Fia said this message must be delivered immediately. Although she didn't say it had to be given to the prince himself. Might I ask who you are, so I can tell her who I gave it to."
"Ah, yes... I'm... the prince's... personal assistant! Yes, that's it. You know how impulsive boys are, and some girls too." She turned and glared at someone else in the room hidden from Fia's view by the door. "They need someone to keep their schedule on track. That's me! I'm... Lady Cally."
"Yes, of course, I understand, Lady Cally. Princess Fia has instructed me to invite the prince to tea and a light snack in her room in order to discuss the impending engagement."
"Yes, of course, when shall the Prince be expected?"
"In an hour and a half. Do make sure he's not late. Just between us, the princess cannot abide tardiness."
"An hour and a half? In her quarters? Yes, the prince will be there, somehow."
"Excellent. She'll be awaiting your... prince's arrival." Fia then curtsied politely, and turned to leave. She had an hour and a half to change back, and get this little impromptu tea party set up. She practically skipped through the halls as she heard the woman she had just talked to, clearly the transformed Kelos shout out, "Now what are we going to do?!!"
