Not wishing to offend her guest, she cooed over the garish pendant. Asking Kelos what the gems were, and who crafted it. However, she was more than a little concerned by the gift. Unusually for metal it felt a little warm on her skin. But she waited until a quiet moment presented itself and excused herself.
She headed for Marlin's tower. the cold night air filled the passageways of the tower teasing her skin and gently breezing through her hair.
Knocking on the door to his lab, she waited. Examining the pendant, she found nothing out of the ordinary.
Growing impatient she knocked again, and was about to enter when the friendly face of the wizard opened the door. The smile hidden by his beard was quite familiar to the princess, who loved to see her tutor happy.
"The youth of today, you've got no time for an old man's weary feet." The twinkle in his eye drew a smile from Fia.
"Prince Kelos gave me this." she lifted it from her cleavage, holding it up for him to examine. "Oh I wish I were a Prince." she muttered, then I could face him honestly and openly.
"There, there my dear. You have the advantage of him. He is blinded by your beauty, and has dismissed you. The options for a Prince are usually less subtle." still holding the pendant he pulled her slowly and abstractedly towards his desk and spyglass.
"Would you like to see your life as Prince Fio." he asked as he slipped the pendant off her neck. "If you ask the mirror politely, perhaps it will show you how your life would have turned out had you been born a boy."
Fia was rather taken with that idea, but as she watched her tutor it became obvious that he was being extremely careful in how he handled the pendant.
