He thought it might be better to circle around and try to sneak in the back way so there would be less chance of being seen, but as soon as he deviated from the most direct route back to their den, Nala noticed.
"Where are we going?" she asked skeptically.
"I didn't want the pride to see us coming home with a whole zebra. They might make us share, or worse, make fun of you."
Nala nuzzled her mate. "It's sweet of you to worry, but I think we can handle them. Just walk quickly and pretend like you're not doing anything unusual. I want to get home as quickly as possible so I can have some more of that zebra."
She didn't need to say anything else. Simba gladly headed straight for home, trying to find a balance between going quickly and looking nonchallant. Unfortunately, luck wasn't with the pair that day as far as stealth was concerned. They were within sight of their own den when they ran into Asha, another lioness.
