"This whole 'thin is in' thing is a very recent thing. When I was growing up, a skinny girl wasn't worth the time of day. I don't really know what changed, but I was never really interested. A slim woman just looks malnourished to me. I'm not saying that you look bad, just that I think you'd be better off putting twenty pound or so." Leo shrugged. "Unless you'd rather diet."
"So, what, there was a fashion for 'fat fillies' when you were growing up?" Piper objected to the idea. Her equal rights ideology was riled by the apparent indignity of it. "Fatten up your wife like a plump prize pig?"
Leo laughed. "Not in the slightest. Sorry, I didn't mean to laugh. You see, it wasn't a passing phase, some fat fad. It was what most people preferred throughout the globe, for most of history. The fact is that there are still lots of people in the world, about half the world's population in fact, who like fat as a cosmetic preference. That only changed when food became so cheap and easy to access that for some people, eating healthily and exercising is seen as being more difficult than getting whatever food, when you want it. Now, women try to starve themselves on purpose, to seduce men who usually prefer a girl with big breasts, full lips, wide hips and a 'ghetto booty'. But back in my day, women would eat what they wanted, and if that made them more voluptuous, so much the better! And if a man *was* dating a woman who was fat, then he'd better make sure he made enough to feed her the way she was used to. The women gained weight for themselves, the fact that it was seductive to men was just a bonus."
Piper thought about that. "Well, I would be lying if I said I wasn't tempted. I'd love to trade salad for lasagne and going to the gym for picking something up from the Cheesecake Factory."
