Michelle was hard at work checking the route ahead to make sure there were no delays, when suddenly the sound of crying could be heard from the play area. She knew the twins were the only ones in there, so it had to be one of them.
Looking up from her phone, she saw Lilly sitting on the floor holding her leg as she cried. Jumping into action, Michelle ran into the play area and dropped to her knees in front of her crying daughter. “Lilly, sweetie, what’s wrong?”
Barely holding it together as she pointed to Robby, Lilly said, “Ro-Robby pu-pushed me and I-I sc-scraped m-my k-knee!”
“I didn’t push you, you big liar!” coming up next to Michelle, Robby turned to her and said, “She was running around and tripped on the corner of the slide.”
Michelle quickly realized that Robby was telling the truth; as Lilly appeared to have fallen back on her old habit of trying to get her brother in trouble every time she hurt herself. Turning to her daughter, who was slowly calming down, Michelle said, “Try to be more careful next time, sweetie.”
Suddenly the door to the play area opened and a teenage employee ran in with an ice pack. Rushing over to give it to Michelle, she said, “I heard crying and thought this might help.”
“Thank, that’s very kind of you.” Taking the ice pack, Michelle said, “My daughter just has to learn not to be so clumsy.”
Michelle took the kids back into the restaurant where she sat them at the table. After placing the ice pack on Lilly’s knee for a few minutes, she took it off and kissed Lilly’s knee for her. Feeling better by this point, Lilly said, “Thanks Mommy.”
The trio left the restaurant a few minutes later; as she went to buckle the kids into the booster seats, Michelle wondered if she should go through with her plan not to reverse the changes until they returned from vacation. It was nice having her little kids back again but she forgot how much of a handful they could be.
