They decided to pair up as couples.

For some strange reason which never seemed to occur to any of the kids, when they got back to the hut, the girls looked at the guys and asked, "Who are we sleeping with?"
Tom looked over at the table and said, "Let's pick lots." He reached down and picked up several pebbles of varying colors. When he had six sets of pebbles, he set half of them off to one side, then said, "I'll hold these up in the cup of my hands. First, the girls will pick a pebble. As they do, they'll set it on the table in order of their choice. Then, they'll move over to the hammocks and either stand next to them or sit in them as they choose. When the guys choose, they'll go over next to the girl as indicated by the color of pebble they pull out. I'll take whichever pebble is left. We can either stay as partners of change up by the week or month or..."
The girls just nodded. Alexa stepped forward as Tom raised his hands over his head. She reached up and pulled out a light pink pebble. Marsha stepped up next, drawing a white pebble. She was followed by Mary who pulled out a black pebble. Sarah pulled out a grey flecked pebble. Linda reached in to pull out a milky pebble. Tom handed Sally the last pebble, one colored dark blue. The girls moved over to the hammocks and climbed in, laying down as if ready for sleep.
Tom picked up the other pebbles and shook them in his hands. Red drew first, his pebble matching Sally's dark blue one. He went over and climbed into the hammock with her. Both of them were fast asleep within seconds. No one thought it strange as Stu came forward to draw a grey flecked pebble. He climbed in with Sarah and they were asleep within moments. Mike pulled out a milky pebble and joined Linda. Sam came next to pull out a black pebble. He climbed in with Mary. Jimmy reached out to pull the pink pebble, leaving Tom with Marsha as Jimmy climbed into the hammock with Alexa.
Darkness fell as all the teens slept. When they woke the next morning...
