As Kyon opened the door, he noticed a figure with it's back turned from him. While he was unable to recognize who this mystery person was, due to the blinding morning sunrise shining into his eyes, he soon realised who the person was. The figure in the room jumped in surprise as the door opened, causing a clatter of what Kyon assumed to be plates and utensils. After finding out the person's true identity, a warm smile appeared on his face and a sense of relief washed across him.
In the female variant of the school's resident uniform, stood Mikuru Asahina, a fellow SOS brigade member and official mascot for the strange group. While Kyon was just a regular teenager, Mikuru was far more than regular. An certified time traveller from an unspecified time in the future, Mikuru had came to the present day to investigate a strange occurrence regarding the very fabric of time, having the suspicion that the brigade's feisty leader, Haruhi, had something to do with it. Quickly turning around to see who had entered the door, the redhead's reaction was similar to Kyon's, after finding out who had joined her in the cold meeting room.
"Oh...hello Kyon! It's nice to....see you this morning." Mikuru, despite knowing she was in good hands with Kyon, was still a little shaky from the startle he had given her recently.
"Hey Mikuru, good to see you too." Kyon replied, simply and smartly.
Having a quick glance across the club room, Kyon noticed that everything was in order at his present location. Only one thing struck him as odd after he examination of his surroundings, something extremely odd.
Nagato wasn't here.
Yuki Nagato, the former Literature club member and artificial robot alien sent to examine the exploits of Haruhi, was not present in the club room. Almost every time she was the first to arrive, usually reading a book which she would have taken interest in. Instead, the chair in the corner of the room which normally housed the alien being was alone and empty for a change. Seeing no sense in passing it up, Kyon asked his fellow brigade member about the absence of their monotone friend.
"Hey, you don't happen to know where Nagato is, do you?"
"I'm sorry Kyon, I haven't seen her this morning at all. The club room was empty when I got here." Mikuru had recovered from her shock earlier in the morning and was now speak clearer and more fluently.
Before Kyon could reply back with a standard "Oh, okay then", the time traveller jerked forward and interjecting another response for him.
"Oh! I almost forgot! Nagato came up to me yesterday and asked me to make her some pastries for her to eat. In fact, that's the whole reason I came here early today. Maybe her absence has something to do with that?"
Absorbing the information, Kyon thought carefully about what Mikuru had just told him. "Nagato asking for food? Not something she would do normally, but something she would still do none the less. But still, asking Mikuru personally for some and then not showing up first in the club room is quite strange for her. Maybe the two instances have a connection..."
As he continued to question the thoughts in his mind, the train of thought he had going was abruptly ended by the sound of an opening door, no doubt meaning the arrival of another SOS member. Turning around, Kyon was greeted by the form of.....
