“You know,” says the golem. “In a way, this could be good.”
You’ve been staring morosely at the two completed masks for fifteen minutes. One of Cassie, one of yourself. You made the second when the flare of the spell died down. Anything to distract yourself from what you’ve just done.
“How the fuck can you say that?”
“Well,” says the golem as it lays Cassie’s clothes in a neat pile next to you. “Now you have two golems. You can put the mask of you on the new one and that means I get to stay me.”
You look at what’s left of Cassie. Her skin has turned the same granite grey as the golem’s. She feels cold and damp to the touch. While she is still breathing, her eyes are closed and she shows no other sign of life. Weirdly, her clothes didn’t turn to stone. Her hair bunches have kept their shape even after the golem removed the elastic bands Cassie had used on them.
“I’m tempted to rip that mask off you and pound you into dust with a hammer,” you snarl. You pick up the mask of yourself and hand it to the golem. “Put it on her. Let’s hope for your sake this is a fuck up that can be recovered from.”
Colour returns to Cassie’s skin as the golem places the mask on top of her. You watch as she stretches out and bulks up to match your own proportions.
“Hey there,” says the old golem to the new one.
“Don’t you ‘hey there’ me,” replies the new golem as it stands up. “I’m just as pissed off at you as the boss is, what with having his memories right up to quarter of an hour ago.”
“Please tell me something good,” you ask the new golem.
“I’m sorry boss,” it replies. “I don’t think there’s anything left of Cassie’s mind in here. Just in the mask.”
“Fuck,” you shout, smashing your fist down on the table. “What do we do now?”
“The only thing we can do now is carry on with the plan,” says the new golem. “And thinking of that, I’m feeling a bit chilly right now. I’m going to need your clothes so we can make the swap.”
“That’s a bit harsh,” says the first golem. “Can’t we give him a bit of space to calm down first?”
“I know exactly what he’s going through right now,” says the new golem. “More so than you do as I’m a more recent copy. He knows the only option is to press on. We all do.”
“I know, I know,” you say ruefully. “I guess we can try to undo the spell later. Maybe there’s something in the book. I don’t know.”
All three of you sit silently for a minute. There’s simply nothing else to be said. Realising that, you quickly and methodically remove your clothes, passing them to the new golem who begins to put them on.
All that remains to do is put on the mask. You bring it up to your face quickly, you stumble for a second then it feels like your brain is exploding. Suddenly the room seems much bigger than before. Fragments of thoughts that you don’t recognise surface unbidden. Above them all, a powerful, all consuming need.
“Er boss,” says the first golem. “I know it’s cold down here but its not that cold.”
You look down at yourself. The nipples of Cassie’s small perky breasts are quite stiff. Your crotch feels a little damp too.
Cassie’s thoughts and feelings are overpowering. You realise that she’s had a bit of a crush on you for a while now. The last thing she remembers is leading you into the basement room, getting ready to make good on that crush. Now that you are her, you’re ready to pick up where she left off.
It doesn’t help matters that the Will Prescott in front of you is still half naked either.
