"Sammy!" Mom called.
"Ouch." I mumbled from the loudness.
"You're going to be late for the first day of 2nd grade!" She cried as she entered the room. My mom was a very creative woman. Well if she wasn't then she wouldn't be a very good artist. She paints the most beautiful things. Once she even made her own book full of drawings. You could also tell by her wardrobe that she was artsy. She wore a green silk top with laced with blue ribbon and drawings of lipstick, orange juice, and all of the most random items you could think of. She wore long flare jeans that were covered in paint stains. Her hair was placed in a neat blob up on her head, that was finished off with a butterfly clip.
"Okay mom, just let me finish my cereal." I said. She grinned and looked through the window studying something closely. I watched her as she twirled a strand of loose hair. She looked so peaceful.
"I hope it snows. That would be just wonderful to paint!" It was my mom's voice, but strangely her lips didn't move a bit. Then I heard it again. "Oh my! Look at that, I think I saw a flake!"
"What was that mom?" I asked suspiciously.
"I didn't say anything." She said looking at me. "Now hurry up! You're already late."
That day at school was the weirdest. I seemed to know what everyone was thinking. I knew all the answers to math problems and could hear the other students' thoughts. And I thought it was funny to know who liked who.
Julia liked Dan who liked Catlin who liked Seth who didn't like anyone. But unfortunately I liked Jamie, who didn't like anyone either. I could tell when someone was lying, or daydreaming. It was so cool. But Jake, my best bud, knew that something was up. I knew I would have to tell someone about my "secret powers". But should I really? Would it freak him out?
