…decide it’s best to let Jessica handle school while you explore the limits of your new powers. After all, swapping back immediately seems like a waste of an opportunity, and Jessica doesn’t seem to realize the predicament yet.
“Actually, Jessica,” you say, trying to sound casual, “I’m not feeling great. Maybe you should head to school without me.”
Jessica gives you a skeptical look. “You? Skipping school? That’s a first. You sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah, just need some time to think about stuff,” you reply, waving her off. “Don’t worry about me.”
Jessica shrugs. “Alright, whatever. But if Mom finds out, you’re explaining this.” She grabs her schoolbag, slings it over your shoulder, and heads out the door. You watch your own body, with Jessica’s head, leave for school, feeling a mix of relief and excitement.
Once you’re alone, you can’t help but grin. This is your chance to test out the power. You grab a jacket—one that fits Jessica’s smaller body—and head for the park.
The park is bustling with activity when you arrive. Parents push toddlers on swings, joggers weave through the paths, and groups of kids shout to each other in a nearby field. You stand for a moment, taking it all in, when an idea strikes you: What would it be like to swap heads with someone entirely different? Someone older? Someone younger? The possibilities seem endless.
You spot a teenager a little older than your usual self sitting on a bench, scrolling through his phone. His leather jacket and confident posture make him stand out. Then there’s a middle-aged woman jogging with her dog, looking focused but approachable. And finally, there’s a young boy building a sandcastle by the playground, utterly absorbed in his work.
