Maybe no one believed in making wishes on falling stars but she believed in alot of things no one else did..her dad kept telling her that that was her major problem, that she lived in a fantasy world..but what was wrong with that?
Taking a deep breath Kara Hunter leaned back and watched the streaking star arch across the sky,her long deep auburn hair brushing the grass behind her.
"I wish..Oh,I wish I could become graceful..powerful..beautiful..like this.."She breathed, her fingers tracing the lines of the dragon figurine her father had given her for her last birthday and tears stung at her almost closed emerald eyes.
She missed him so very much and without him her life wasn't worth very much at all,why not become the one thing that they had both loved when he still lived?
"Time to come inside!"The voice that startled her from her thoughts belonged to her Aunt Lindy and she heaved a sigh as she stood up,brushing the dead grass from her rump with her empty hand before she ambled toward the house she was supposed to call home now.
That night she dreamed of soaring through the skies on strong leathery wings,a graceful firey red dragon in all its glory, golden eyes staring down at a world she'd never seen...colors so very brilliant and the people who ran from her looked so small,so insignificant that when she woke a smile still curved her mouth..a smile that faded when she looked down at her hand that clutched her blanket to see crimson scales covering skin that had once been pale and almost flawless.
Biting back a scream Kara shook her hand and looked at it again to find that her skin was still pale and flawless..all too normal.
What the hell was going on?
"They had to be on drugs..imagining something like that."Aunt Lindy was talking into the phone when she went into the kitchen to grab a bowl of Cocoa Puffs for breakfast."I mean really Marge,Dragons aren't real."She rolled her eyes when Kara shot her a startled glance."I don't care that they said they got it on video,It couldn't be a dragon..maybe it was a new kind of bird and they were whacked out on acid or something."
