Your name is Elliot Dover, a young man from a long line of Irish fishermen. You have lived is the small town of Port Godfried, Oregon your entire life, spending your days combing the rocky beaches. You are the son of a fisherman and are learning to one day become one yourself. The ocean has always beckoned to you. Being a sailor is in your blood. But sailing had honestly never held your interest. Having been a lifeguard and a swimming intructor, you've always loved the water. But the waters of Port Godfried were known to be dangerous.
It was no secret that merfolk existed. They were highly intelligent and diverse in appearance. All are aquatic mammals. There are two types of merfolk known.
There are the peaceful Nyangumi, who migrate and follow the fish between the poles. Growing up to 30 feet long, they resemble both seals and orca whales in color and how they store blubber. They are very gentle and are the only semi-terrestrial merfolk. They used their strong upper bodies and thick claws to haul their bulk onto land to breed, bask, and raise their pups in ice dens.
The most dangerous type are the Bahari. Also called Sea Tigers, Baharis have sharp claws and lion-like teeth. Hunting in packs, Baharis are the wolves of the ocean. They are brightly colored for display and grow to be 20 feet long to deter other Bahari from attacking. They are aggressive and fiercely protective of their young. They live in the coastal and tropical waters of the world, and are as infamous as sharks.
