This choice: Call Naomi and explain, hoping she'll understand • Go Back...Chapter #5Please Understand by: who-me The cell phone rang three times when Naomi picked up.
"Aaron, what's up?" came the sweet angelic voice. Oh the irony.
"Uh . . . Something came up . . . I won't be able to go with you to the dance," Aaron said.
"What?" came a flat tone. "Why the hell not?"
"You wouldn't believe me," Aaron said as he looked at his darkening finger nails that seemed to be sharpening on their own.
"Try me," Naomi said. Aaron sighed and activated the camera on the phone. One click and send later, he waited. "Holy fuck," you heard. "Aaron." Her voice was soft now. Any moment she would break things off with you.
"I know. I know you don't want to . . ."
"Are you kidding me? I'm coming over and you are telling me everything!" She hung up the phone and Aaron just stared blankly.
As a young man who just graduated from High School, the world was said to be his oyster, but Aaron knew if this "affliction" wasn't dealt with, he wouldn't be accepted anywhere.
Carefully, Aaron walked downstairs and looked around. His parents were off working, despite it being Saturday. But something was bugging him. A soft thumping. He walked carefully and found Old Meow, the family cat nearly 15 years old and couldn't catch a mouse if it ran into his mouth. He slept soundly by Aaron blinked as he realized something.
"I can hear your heart beat," he whispered. Reaching down with clawed hands, he scratched the old cat. He purred and glanced up at Aaron before falling back asleep. "Well, at least I have one person who won't abandon me." Aaron gave a weak smile as he heard a car drive in. He shivered with fear as a knock came on the door.
"Aaron, it's me," came Naomi's voice.
"D-doors open," Aaron said. Naomi entered and looked up at Aaron.
"Wow," she whispered. "Aaron, you're taller."
"What?" Aaron asked. Naomi came close. When he asked her out, she was up to his nose. Now she was closer to his chest. "How could I . . ."
"Shh. It's all right," Naomi said, taking one hand without fear. She led him to the living room couch and sat down. "Now, tell me everything." Aaron nodded and told her about Holly, rejecting her, and the words exchanged after it.
"And then I wake up and I've become this," Aaron said as his shirt ripped from an expanding chest. "I'm becoming the fucking devil." Naomi touched his reddening face as he continued to change.
"We can find a way to fix this," Naomi whispered.
"How?" Aaron yelled with a deeper voice. He rose and walked around before noticing a clop-clop as he walked. "Don't tell me."
"You have cloven feet now," Naomi said, "And a tail." He turned and saw a spat tip slowly growing. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
