Suzy and Ashley gave each other a warm hug. They were the shortest in the Safari building by quite a margin, unable to see far through the milling crowd, but a disparate group of twenty formed organically. Choosing to share the savannah experience, the girls realised that many perhaps the whole rest of their party was there to hunt, and they were there for the experience to make some fond memories together...
One of the company guides, herded the party through a large double door. As they all passed through, they each took a ball from the opaque jar planted in the middle of the doorway. An excited buzz ran through the group at this point. While Suzy and Ashley exchanged a slightly confused look. With a shrug the pair opened up their fists revealing the colour of the balls in their hands.
Suzy showed a plain, glossy black ball, and Ashley a snowy white one.
"Are we in different groups?" Ashley whispered. A look of concern about being separated clear on her face.
A snort came from a nearby man, who'd overheard the question.
"Yeah... You could say that." he answered rather more loudly than either girl liked. His tone changed, softened a moment later, "You.. really don't know."
"Which group are you in?" Suzy asked.
"I don't know. That's part of the thrill for me." he answered. "Oh, Jackson... I'm Casey Jackson." he offered her his free hand.
"How can you not know." Suzy thrust her white ball in front of him.
"Yes..." he answered, his head moving oddly as if weighing up what to say... or how to break some upsetting news.
The conversation continued, as the whole group kept on walking. "Well, to that extent I'm with you... madam..." he tilted his head towards Suzy, as he revealed the black ball in his hand.
"But we'll all find out when we step through that portal." There was an excitement to his voice.
Mastering that, he finally spoke clearly.
"Well once through we'll find out who's hunter and who's prey."
Suzy and Ashley shared aghast expressions.
"You are on different sides... so one will be hunter and the other hunted."
