The one with the gem looks expensive and looks to be the same color as Kim’s birthstone. “I’ll take that one”, Matt tells Mr. Lee pointing at the necklace with the jewel. Mr. Lee retrieves it from the case, puts it in a box, and says, “An excellent choice. There is a story behind this piece. Would you like to hear it”. Matt shrugs his shoulders and answers, “Sure”. “This pendent contains the stone of understanding. It allows lovers to understand each other better”, he says. Matt laughs under his breath while pulling out his wallet. It sounds like BS, but he commits it to memory anyway. Kim will eat it up. “Exactly how does it bring about this better understanding”, Matt asks making small talk as he completes the purchase. Mr. Lee only smiles and answers, “You will find out. When you achieve understanding of each other only then will the effects be reversed”. Matt takes his change, the box with the necklace, and replies, “Right, sure thing”.

Matt walks out of the store laughing. “Mr. Lee must write fortune cookies on the side”, Matt mumbles while getting into his car. Matt then races back to his apartment to get ready for his date with Kim. Matt hurries once home, showers, and gets dressed. Before leaving he checks to make sure he has the tickets to the play. He’s really not into plays, but it’s what Kim wanted to do. Matt figures he’ll just have a hard time keeping his eyes open. “How can she be into this stuff”, Matt wonders? He then checks to make sure he has the necklace and money for dinner. With everything in place he leaves to pick up Kim. On the way he wonders if he should give her the necklace right away, or at the end of the date.
