Visions into a world where wealth decides about your measurement

This choice: Jimmy makes a break for it.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

A swift extermination

by: Dr. Manhattan Author IconMail Icon
From his sitting position on the lushly flexible palm, the vast twins of bejeweled cyan staring at him compete for the attention of Jimmy's helpless gaze. The heels of his worn loafers skid forward desperately against ductile landing, creating much friction for his dragging backside. Soon realizing that such action is an ineffective method of travel, Jimmy, in a single movement, pushes off from the plush landscape while rotating his body 180 degrees. Before he can even stand, he sprints straight ahead and away from the beautifully frightening visage studying him so intently.

Once he rushes to the edge of the loosely aligned bridge of coral-wrapped phalanges, Jimmy glances beyond pink delineated tips to the dark green forest below. Through the monotonous sea of blades, he makes out the outlines of the five persistent predators previously giving him chase scampering about in random search. Jimmy was hoping that they would have wandered off by now, allowing him a less treacherous escape route after making his death-defying leap, but to no avail. Jimmy scrapes his brain for alternatives as he stands frozen at the outer frontier of a wealthy girl's hand.

"Are they still bothering you?", Valerie breaks the silent tension.

Her left hand acts on cue with Valerie's words, leaving its chin supporting state in a falling motion. Its metacarpus is revealed as Valerie's tall digits extend flatly in merged unison. Gaining velocity, the demolishing appendage zips at a declining angle toward the unknowing insects. In an impressive instant, it slams carelessly into the general vicinity of Jimmy's former whereabouts, sending a clamorous thud into the air. The guilty palm wipes itself against a cleaner portion of the grassland before raising itself back to Valerie's face, opting to lean against her lightly blushed cheek this time. Jimmy glares in dumbfounded manner at the sight of the collision. The smushed grass and partially exposed dirt are all that is left; the ants appear to have been literally smashed into oblivion.

With a sense of pride in her voice, Valerie asks, "Better?".

"...", Jimmy is rendered speechless.

"You don't need to jump, you know", Valerie seems to have read Jimmy's mind, "Besides, the fall would probably kill you".

Jimmy turns to face the looming giantess, "And if I stay up here?".

"Stick with me and you'll be fine", Valerie assures with a warm smile, "It's a lot safer up here. By the way, you do know you're in upper class territory, right? Why would you come all the way out here? It's way too dangerous for someone like you".

Jimmy isn't sure whether or not to trust the giantess holding him in her palm.

You have the following choices:

1. Jimmy trusts Valerie

*Pen*
2. Jimmy is still skeptical

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
