Chapter #3

Tinies are NOT for the birds!

Valerie was sitting on a bench in the park, deep in thought. As she was busy thinking, she noticed something out of the corner of her eye: a group of three boys and two girls was being attacked by a crow! Being form a rich family, Valerie was able to maintain her full size of 5'9''. These people, however, were not so fortunate. They all appeared to be about 18 years old. They were a mixture of sizes, but none of them were taller than half a foot. One of the girls was about 3 inches tall, as was one of the boys. The other two boys were 4 inches and 2 inches respectively. The remaining girl was the tallest of them, standing at 5 inches tall. None of them, however, were any match for the foot tall bird.

Valerie immediately jumped to her feet and ran toward the scene. She began waving her arms and screaming to scare off the bird, and it took off shortly after noticing her... Unfortunately, it took the shirk off of the smallest boy's back along with it. The five teenagers now stood and stared in awe at the giantess who had just saved their lives. Valerie, on the other hand, quickly noticed that the crow had made off with the 2 inch boy's shirt. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a tissue and poked a hole into it with her finger. she then handed it down to the boy. He stared at her for another moment before accepting the tissue and putting it on like a poncho.

"Uhhh... Thank you, Miss..."

Valerie simply smiled at the boy.

"It was nothing. I couldn't just stand by and watch as some bird made a meal out of you guys, could I?"

"Well... Most people would have..."

"And that's because most people are complete idiots! If they had even a single shred of common sense, then they would know how important it is to help out those in need! Anyway, do you guys mind if I ask who you are?"

"Sure! I'm Jake. The two 3 inchers over there are Alex and his sister Michelle; they're twins, by the way. The 4 inch guy is my neighbor Chris. And our towering leader here is Queen Amy."

Amy walked over and gave Jake a quick bonk on the head.

"How many times have I told you not to call me that! That nickname got old a long time ago. Just give it a rest already, Jake..."

"Aw, but it fits you so well..."

"Kinda like how that new 'poncho' of yours fits you? I'm sorry Jake, but that thing looks like it's 5 sizes too big for you! And it's just a stinking tissue for Pete's sake!"

"Hey! It's not my fault that that stupid bird stole my shirt! Why if I were only a few inches taller, I'd-"

Amy then interrupted by placing her hand on Jake's chest and giving him a gentle shove backwards. He fell on his butt, and Amy simply giggled at him with a smirk on her face.

"You'd do what, little man?"

Getting to his feet again, Jake prepared to rush at Amy with a counterattack. Before he had the chance, however, Alex and Michelle got in between them and held them apart.

"Break it up, you two! Can't you go one day without starting an argument?!" Michelle said

"He started it!" Amy yelled

"I don't care who started it! This comedy routine of yours has gotten really old! Just drop it already!" Alex said

Valerie simply looked over to Chris, who was standing to the side and trying to tune the whole thing out.

"Are they always like this?" she asked

"Oh no, this is actually one of their more mild arguments... You should have seen them before the shrinking law was put into effect! Those two would go at each other like crazy! Things have gotten a bit more tame now that Amy has the size advantage, but Jake still just loves pressing her buttons..."

"So how long have you five known each other?"

"I met Jake about 4 years ago, when my family moved into the house next to his. Amy and Jake are childhood friends, and have known each other since preschool. As for the twins, I really don't know when they came into the picture. All I know is that they met the other two at some point in elementary school. The five of us have hung out together ever since we met."

"Wow... It must be nice to have friends like that... Ever since that stupid shrinking law came up 3 years ago, the only people that I can hang out with are total snobs!"

"Hmmm... Well, would you like to hang out with us then? I'm sure that the others are also grateful for you saving us. It would be nice to get to know you Miss."

"Miss? Why are you-Oh crap! I can't believe that I forgot to introduce myself! I'm sorry... My name is Valerie."

"Ah, well then... It's nice to meet you, Valerie!"

Chris then held out his hand to offer a handshake. Valerie smiled and used her index finger to shake hands with him. By this point, the other four had managed to sort out their argument. Amy and Jake stepped forward and looked up at Valerie.

"Sorry about that, Valerie... I guess that old habits are hard to break..." Amy said

"Oh, don't worry about it. I'm just glad that I was able to help you out."

"So, what are we gonna do now?" the twins asked

"Hmmm... How about _________."
